Exclamation Fuel Injector Checks

Can anyone please tell me why no one will gave me a stright answer on this. When ask now a Fuel Injector should be cleaned no one will gave me a stright answer on this why?

You would think after 70,000 miles they should be checked to see if they are clean or needs to be clean. I have a car with 167,000 miles on it and they still won't gave me a stright answer on this. You know they should be dirty after that many miles. Fuel Injector cleaner will not and cannot do a through all job on them.

It seems they used to clean them but the standard answer now just seems to be replace them if they are causing a problem.

How can you tell if they are working OK. You may think they are and they may not be.

I don't mess with the new cars much but the sensors can tell of a cylinder is not providing full power by the crankshaft speed variations. It sets a computer code.

injectors do wear...as with most electrical-mechanical componants, fuel injectors may well last 200k+ miles. they will spray fuel but the spray is not as fine mist when they are new, liquids do wear metal away as time go by,

let me put it this way, pressure washer use tips at the end of the washer wand, these tips have a very small hole that the water exits, over time, the high pressure of the water erroads the hole in the tip, making it larger, it will then have less pressure at the tip .....i hope this make sense....

on edit: the newer fuels have more cleaners in them which help in keeping injectors clean and from clogging up, but they can't stop them from wearing out. if you look at tip of a injector, you'll see several tiny holes, those holes are what "mist" the fuel into the cyl., over time they get larger and the mist is not as fine of a spray.....

Ok the way I understand what you have just said is when they get old or with more mileage on them you will get a decrease in mileage because they will spray more gas than what they should, right.

Also is it a waste of money to put a Fuel Injector Cleaner in your gas ever so many miles?

What would you say is the right time or mileage to change your Fuel Injectors?

Each day is a gift spend it wisely

its not that they spray more gas, its that they don't spray as "fine mist", just larger mist that dosent burn as fast....resulting in less power and mileage, as far cleaner's...cleaner is better.....

but after so many miles, like 150k + the injector will still work but not like a new one....

when i have to rebuild a engine, i perfer to buy a complete used one that has injectors and sensors with it w/ 40-50k onit than to put a new long block in with the old sensors and injectors ,ect.ect..that have 200k in them... .

What would you say it would cost to have new Injectors put in a 6 cyl. and would you have to put new sensors in also? So if you would put all new injector and sensors what would it cost?

What does the sensors do?

as far as prices go you'll have to call the dealer on the oem replacements, or check the local parts house, for aftermarket, maybe check some of the sponsors of FTE too....you can replace the injectors yourself...as to the sensors... i would only replace the o2's , the rest only if they failed....sensors monitor engine performance, like temp, air density, throttle position, crankposition, anti knock, timing, the o2's in the exhaust, monitor the exhaust to see if the engine is running too rich or lean, temperture sensors tell the engine if it cold or hot ..so it can add fuel {rich, cold} or less {lean, hot} there a few other sensors that ive missed...but maybe some else will jump in to fill in the gaps...

on edit S P O N S O R..of FTE... is what i meant to what i wrote above..

I did replace the 02 with a BURSCH one because they told me that it was bad, this is why I throught that the Fuel Injectors could be bad, I know my gas mileage is down also, so I was thinking that this may be the problem?

Any ideals would be helpful to bring it back up.

I've been considering sending my injectors to be professionally cleaned, www.cleaninjectors.com. Their process sounds very thorough.

Anybody ever taken their injectors out to be cleaned?

Home built injector tester

O2FX, yes i removed my injectors, did a back flush clean, spray pattern test, and checked for equal volume balance between all 8 of 'em. I built a injector
tester from JectorRate plans. Go to Google and type in JectorRate. The injectors that i cleaned are for a Rover Disco, MPI. Someone stated that worn injectors will run rich, they are wrong, the pulse width will be shortened by the ECU from the signal from the O2 sensors. Carl........o&o>.........
