My stock CD receiver is dying. It is the JBL sound system. I'm told I have to change out the (8ohm) speakers with new (4ohm) speakers to use a new CD receiver (such as pioneer or panasonic). Does anyone know if this is true?
Also, I pulled out the receiver and saw two really unique plugs. Do the "stores" have adapters/connectors to quick switch the player or do I need to search for something special (costly).
There is a power amp and large audiobahn woofer in the back left panal. I'm sure it is not stock (at least the speaker) since I had to do some refitting to get the side panel to fit over the speaker. I was told this would not have to be replaced.
I just want to buy a lower cost cd receiver w/ mp3 capability. The volume and sounds quality are fine as is. I haven't pulled any panels to see if the speakers are 8 or 4 ohm.
Any help ? I don't trust the CC or BB sales people.
I don't see the need to change your speakers. The reciever and amp is what ohms output is being used. If they use 4 ohm output for each channel, Then you would need speakers or use an amp that would bring it back up to 8 ohms.
Most stores have an adaptor for all units, They can be anywhere from $9.00~$29.00 depending on what it is.
I assume the amp runs only the Woofer and has only one output, So that would be right.
You can get a CD player out of a Junk Yard. Any truck ot car now days all play MP3, CDA, and some Wav files.
You can go to walmart and pick up an install harness that fits. You can still use the amp/sub set up you have. It's probly hooked up to the rear speakers. I can't see why Ford would use 8ohm speakers in a 94. You most likely have 4 ohm speakers in the doors. Pioneer makes great radios at great prices.
