I have an 05 F-250 CC PSD 4x4 LB King Ranch on order. It should be here sometime next month. My dealer had the same truck in an F-350 on the lot this weekend. I considered buying the 350 to avoid the wait but something did not make sense on the pricing. I have read the threads on the F-250 vs. the F-350. It seems as if the only physical diff between the two are 4 inch blocks vs 2 inch blocks on the rear. The rest is stickers and badges which don't change how the truck behaves. There is already a $745 price difference for this extra 2 inches of lift in the back and more gross weight certification in the form of a door sticker. But wait, there is more.....I ordered my F-20 with the brake controller which is a $205 option (sticker price). The F-350 has the Brake controller as part of a "Tow Command" option for $425 (sticker). The Tow Command option was explained to me to be the brake controller and the Tow Mirrors. On my F250, the same Tow Mirrors are listed as being included in the King Ranch package. On the F-350, those Tow Mirrors are no longer part of the King Ranch package but part of the Tow Command package. Now that makes no sense since the King Ranch package on both trucks are the same price. There should be no difference between a King Ranch package on a 250 vs a 350. Is this just another way for Ford to charge more for a higher gross weight sticker on a 350?
Now the difference in price between a 350 and a 250 with brake controller is $965! And, all you get is 2 inches of lift. Can anyone help me make sense of this?
The price diff between the 250 and 350 has traditionally been $500 to $800 here in Vegas. What you are talking about seems a little high but not crazy.
Ford can't sell the 250 and 350 at the same price since that would make no sense. Yes the trucks are almost the same but there has to be a price diff between the two. Like it or hate it, that's just the way it is.
As far as the package differences between the two trucks...that is odd.
Well, if I recall correctly, it was said that the block was the only difference on the olde models. Maybe there is a bit more different now that they switched to soil front. Just a thought to look into.
I'm far from a Ford specification expert, but I think there is more to the 05's than riser blocks. I recently ordered a F350 Lariat because of the hold until Dec on the F250 18" wheel option, so I was faced with the same question. I priced a 4X4 KR using FordDirect.com in both the F250 & F350 configurations with identical options. The F250 total MSRP was $50,115 and the F350 was $50,655 or $540 greater. The Base F350 was $905 more, but the cost of the LT275/70x18E All-Terain tires, required with the FX4 package, was $365 more on the F250. Probably to account for the standard 17" wheel on the base F250 package. My Super Duty brochure on page 35, lists the F250 rear axle as a 6200# and the F350 SRW as 7280#. This is probably the contributor to the 1400# carrying capacity and $540 increase for the F350. I believe that Ford held all of the 05 pricing the same as 04 except for a $290 increase on the F350 SRW to cover the uogrades.
Well, I just received clarification on the pricing difference on teh F-350 with Tow Command vs the F-250 I ordered with just the brake controller. Apparently, the F-350 was one of the earlier 05 orders the dealer placed and Ford initially only sold the brake controller as part of the Tow Command package for $425 which included the same mirrors that came in the King Ranch package. He said when he ordered my 05 F-250, Ford corrected this and allowed the dealers to order just the brake controller. He addmitted that Ford "double dipped" on the price of the mirrors on their F-350 but would not correct the error. My dealer also informend me that Ford just raised the price of the King Ranch package from $2995 to $3185.
My dealer still does not have the 05 Supper Duty brochures. When I asked him if the 05 F-250 vs. the F-350 had any other other differences besides the 4" axel blocks vs the 2" axel blocks, he said yes but did not know what they were. I hear ya when you say the axels are rated higher in the F-350 but is it a different axel or is it just a higher number slapped on the same axel that has been raised up another 2 inches? Thanks everyone!
