I have been trying to locate a rattle under the right front-end. I think I have narrowed it down to brake pads...I think. It will rattle when I go over abrupt bumps like expansion cracks in the road.
I have not physically inspected the pads but I can't imagine they are wore out after only 25k miles. Does anyone have any ideas for keeping the pads from rattling around as they wear down?
It may be considered "****" but it annoys the heck out of me!!!!
I have an early 99 F-250 7.3 PSD and am experiencing the same problem. Hub & bearing are ok, spindle bearing is ok but I can move the u-joint up and down about a quarter inch. I'm not sure if this is causing it.(U-joint is ok too).Mine sounds more like a clicking sound, especially when I drive next to a wall or a solid highway divider. I guess I'm in the "****" boat too because it's driveing me bonkers.

Have the same problem on my 2000, everthing checked out, I thought it might be a suspension componet, I going to check this weekend if there is no rain. Let you know if I find anything.
Had similar problem. I replaced the lower front shock mount bolts that Ford used, (shoulder bolt), with a 12mm x1.75mm thread bolt. This solved my rattle.
I have a feeling 95% of you, are having trouble with sway bar end links. Energy suspension has a polyurethane replacement bushing you can use, which are cheaper then ford, and actually last longer. I got mine from http://www.suspension.com/ They are good folks with great customer service.
I felt mine under my feet, (the passenger could feel it under their feet too). Definitely made noise going over bumps, (up and down movement, fast, sounded like something was loose and ready to fall off).

Mine did the same exact thing. I have ESOF and it wasnt working and I figured out that my knuckle seal was destroyed and was allowing that play in the U joints. The U joint had enough play in it to demolish my grease fitting on one of the ball joints.
