I have been having problems getting my 300 to turn over. We put new battery cables, a new batters, a new cable to the starter, a new silinoid and it still has trouble turning over. We took the spark plugs out and it turns over fine. what could be the problem??
Have you rebuilt the engine recently or done any piston or ring work? It may just be that you have a high compression engine or a weak starter, if it starts when it does turn over and runs fine then you are probably ok.. Just a thought..
The truck my son speaks of,I doubt has had any work done inside. Is there anything that would cause that high of compression, like a stuck valve maybe? What about the engine to frame ground?I don't see one on it.It turns over to slow to start and it sucks the life out of a battery. Thanks for the help.

Reason: need to add to it
Follow the Negative Cable from the battery straight down (vertically) and about 4 inches back from the battery on the frame. There is a bolt holding a clamp to the frame. The clamp is actually the frame ground on the NEGATIVE CABLE!! Most of the corrosion / resistance in this cable is within 6" either way of this clamp. It's about a 1/3 of the way down the cable to the starter. Pull the whole thing out and replace with a 36" and a 60". Make sure the frame pad and the starter base are squeaky clean. Install the cables routing away from the exhaust manifolds/pipes, heat sources.
Is it possible to be so far out of time that it won't turn over? The truck ran when we brought it home.Ran like crap though.Looked in the haynes and the wires on the cap were off by one hole.
