I would like to use and aux transmission cooler for my transmission, but I am not sure how or were to put it. There is a oil cooler in front of the air condition already.
I purchased one of the DeRale trans coolers that you can mount anywhere. I mounted mine behind the front suspension. The DeRale I purchased has an electric fan built in and it keeps my tranny really cool regardless of towing load.
Just a suggestion. They're not that expensive. It's called a DeRale 'Atomic' or something like that.
The cheep one I bought said to put it in front of the radiator. Came with directions on how to install it. Mine said to install it on the return-to-trans line. To tell which one is the return, Locate 2 lines at the radiator, mine had one going in to the rad at the top and one at the bottom, driver's side. Start the truck for no more than 10 seconds, touch each of the lines, the cooler line is the return line. Be careful, those puppies get HOT. All this should be in the directions. A word of caution, I had to buy a fitting kit but none of the fittings fit in to my radiator and I had to cut my line and double hose clamp each end.
I run a 40K Tru-Cool stacked plate on my 2003 F250 7.3,,
remove the grill and the rubber cap across the top of the radiator,, remove the two screws holding the air-condioner coil and lean it forward,, you can now see the OEM tranny cooler toward the bottom in front of the radiator,,
I pulled the top line (outlet) off and tied in to my 40K unit's inlet,, 40Ks outlet goes back to the line you removed from the OEM unit that heads back to the tranny,,
I mounted the unit vertical on the bars that you will see when you remove the grill,,
tanny never sees 180 degrees anymore in traffic or pulling our 5th wheel,, we are 19,000 lbs down the road according to the J Scales,,
