Question engine swap question

When I asked if a 351W would swap with a 351M I forgot to mention what transmision was behind the 351M. It came with a C6. I also didn't say that I was going to use the transmision that came with the 351W, which I am assuming is also a C6. Would the transfer-case that came stock behind the 351M,C6 work with the 351W,C6. thanks for the info from my last post and sorry for the left out info too. Would appreceate info on this question. Thanks again.

the two engines have different bolt patterns. you will have to swap cases or output shafts.

sorry

is it divorced case or joined?

all internal stuff is the same, but you have to swap cases, assuming the other is a c-6 also.

find a (1971) 400 and use that. its a direct swap for a 351m.

71 was the best year, any 400 is a direct swap

then you are ok, if both are c-6s with the same style of output shaft, its a direct swap at that end, motormounts are different however.

there was a sliding yolk output shaft, and a much less common bolt-on short output version

I think the frame mounts are the same, you only need the OEM mounts for a 351w/302.

double check the frame mount info though, just in case.

should be easy

measure the total length of the two trannies, if they are the same, and have the same output shaft style, you are golden. ford used the FMX and other variations of it behind the 351w in some bodystyle cars. but it is usually a direct swap with c-6s with the sliding yoke.

full size or torino-size LTDII?

the gear-selector lever may need to be changed if full-size, it will need to be swapped if LTDII. LTDII may have an FMX trans, the full-size will almost always have a c-6

the c-6 has a solid one piece aluminum case, the FMX/BORG-WARNER trans has a seperate bellhousing, and an iron case.
