Muffler Only

Greetings....

I have been thinking about giving my beloved 04 SCrew 5.4 a deeper tone. I'm not really interested in increasing performance, therefore I have been considering replacing just the stock muffler (not to mention I don't want ((read have)) to spend $500+ on a Borla/Flowmaster). The question is...where can I find a aftermarket muffler that bolts right into the stock exhaust? Has anyone out there done this? Replies welcome.....

I dont think there is a direct bolt in available, mainly due to the monstrous size of the OEM muffler. You could certainly bolt one in, with the addition of some short piping on either one or both ends of the muffler, to take up the slack.

I checked into swapping out only the muffler. On the supercrew (not sure about other wheel base lengths) the muffler is indeed huge and unfortunatly the pipe exiting the muffler has an immediate bend to it which would make it very hard to cut and fit in a new pipe. Also, if you want to keep the stock muffler (in the event you want to sell or just go back to stock) the best thing you can do is to buy a kit that easily bolts up after the catalytics. This was the explanation given to me buy a local muff shop so they may have just been trying to sell me on a complete system.

However, if you figure out an inexpensive way to do it...let me know!!

To replace a single quiet muffler with a single glass-pack, would sound like something similiar to a tractor to me-I sure wouldn't do this to something new.

I had a Magnaflow #14256 welded into the stock SS pipe and a SS tip put on as well. It has sounds great and cost $200 out the door from my local muffler shop. They welded the muffler to the front where the old pipe was cut off and added a piece of pipe to the rear up to the bend going over the axle. You will have increased interior noise at highway cruising speed though. For more quiet in the cab I would go for a #14576. Here is the link. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/ss.htm
You can also find a dealer in your area on the link as well.

Thanks for the advice. I have not pulled the trigger on this modification yet. I'm still trying to sort out the best approach. I may even wait until I can install a complete cat-back system. I'm thinking of a Flowmaster or Borla. I only want a low rumble not a loud Harley bark. I have to believe there are other aftermarket exhausts that I need to consider as well.

Just had an Aero Turbine instaled on my truck the other day, 200 for the muffler, 100 for the install. Great sound, deep but not horribly loud. you know its there when you step on it but when your crusing its just a slight hum.

Go with a Borla if you don't what it too loud. I replaced my stock muffler (02 with a 5.4) with a Borla and it sounds almost stock at idle and under smooth acceleration. But when you step on it, it has a really deep rumble. On the highway it sounds stock. I got mine at a local muffler shop, $110 installed, then I picked up some SS tips for $40. Mine come out the side in front of the rear wheel, but it you want to keep the stock tailpipe, it should be even easier.

Had So Many People Ask Me What Kind Of Muffler Was On The Truck ; I Had Some Fun And Told Them It Was A New Style Called A Flo-mo. The Older It Gets The Better The Sound !! I Intend To Go The Same Way On My 2004.

Medicine Man Check out Corsa exhaust at www.corsaperf.com/autohome.htm. You can have the great sound and added HP without interior cabin resonance. I have this system on a escalade and my F150. It is awesome. My friend who races boats told me about them. GM Certified their exhaust and I imagine Ford will soon. The quality is first rate and its guaranteed for life!

I also went with the Corsa. I got the touring muffler because I didn't want too much noise. It's quiet at idle and on the highway, but when you hit the gas it has a nice deep tone. The truck also seems to have a little more responsiveness to the throttle. Cinch to install. Went with the single exhaust. The double systems look like they go too close to the spare tire.

When I want to make noise, I take my Harley for a ride.

? for fcal

Would you say your touring when cruising is as quite as stock?

What do you think about the airaid tube for an intake to match with our exhaust systems? They have tube the looks like we can keep the stock filter?
