Not quite as quiet as stock but pretty close. Sounds good whenever you accelerate. Can't tell how it sounds when on the highway, but it has a nice rumble when the windows are closed.
I just called a local muffler shop and they told me they would install a 40 series flowmaster for $99.00. I'm thinking of going this afternoon. I'm not changing out anything except the muffler. I hope I'm making the right decision. I'll let you know how it works out.

Cholman, please do post results. I had a similar offer from a local shop and was leaning that way for budget reasons. Lemme know how you like the sound, fit & finish. Also if there is any improvement on the butt dyno.
Medicine Man Check out Corsa exhaust at www.corsaperf.com/autohome.htm. You can have the great sound and added HP without interior cabin resonance. I have this system on a escalade and my F150. It is awesome. My friend who races boats told me about them. GM Certified their exhaust and I imagine Ford will soon. The quality is first rate and its guaranteed for life!
The results are in. I just got back from the muffler shop. They cut out the stock muffler and installed a 40 series SI/SO for 108.00 including tax. I am very happy with the results. There is a little resonance that I wasn't expecting (1st V-8 with aftermarket exhaust) at certain speeds, but I 'm sure this will happen with most exhaust systems. There is only a slight difference at idle, you REALLY notice it when you get on it, and slightly louder while cruising. I don't know if there is any power difference. I only drove it for about 10 minutes, but there wasn't much power to begin with so anything is an improvement. Forgot to mention.....'04 STX SCAB w/ 4.6.
The resonance issue is strictly because you went with Flowmaster. They are one of the most notorious brands for this. 108 is a decent deal. Was that for an aluminized muffler?
Don't know if it was aluminized or not. I thought the original 40 series only came in one flavor. It is bright any shiny, that is about all I can tell you without calling them up and asking what they put on. Sorry, but I'm not too knowledgeable about exhaust systems. All I can say is that I am very pleased with the sound, and didn't want to spend 500 plus on a cat back system.
I have a have an ext. cab Lariat 4x4 and for my exaust i am running straight pipe. Truck sounds great and is suprisingly not that obnoxious since ford runs 4 cats. I get a lot of questions of who did my exaust or what brand it is. All I did was go to the local truck stop and buy a stick of 3'' exaust pipe, 4 pre fabed 45's, and one 2.5 to three adapter and weld them together. I pulled off the stock exaust and layed it on the ground and used it as my template and them modified the factory hangers to fit. All of this cost me $125 and two hours of my time.
