My truck has a 4.10 rear end, and 35" tires. My speed at 2000 rpm is 68 mph, and that is the speed most people report the best fuel mileage at. I recently returned from a 2300 mile trip, and averaged 17.8mpg for the trip, over 19mpg for the freeway sections.
My 4x4 with 35” and 4.10 is struggling to keep 14mpg, and is running hot at 70. Im considering 4.56 just for a better city experience and drive slower on the freeway I guess. Hate the fact this Ujoint package is making the van sluggish and less reliable. Long road trips are more out of the question now.

This thread is nearly as old as our trucks. Would probably benefit more by starting a fresh thread specific to your issues or questions or general small talk. All is accepted as long as it stays PG. If you're running hot my first question would be what are you considering hot? These old girls are fine to run 210+ all day long so unless you're getting north of 220 I wouldn't worry. Also 14 mpg out of a 4wd Van running 70 mph doesn't sound to bad to me. If my 4wd 250 broke into the teens I'd likely be arrested for indecent acts with an automobile.
