Highway RPMs?

I've searched everywhere I could think of and can't find a reference for my vehicle. For a 2006 E350 5.4, what should RPMs be at 70mph? I'm turning about 2100rpm, which seems within an acceptable range, but I thought it might be lower.

Is there a chart or something that shows what RPMs should be at different speeds?

A lot of factors involved here. 1. what is final gear ratio. 2. Has there been any changes to the tires etc. 3. Any changes to tuning.

My son has a 04 with 3:73 rear and I think its about the same, been a while since I drove at highway speeds.

Do a search for some of the magazine articles that cover your truck some will have tuning graphs in them particularly if they did a dyno test. Maybe even check out some tuner sites they should have something posted but wont reflect speed.

To clarify, the van is completely stock with OEM size tires, no tuning or other changes. I do need to figure out what rear ratio is, will look tonight for any identifying numbers.

I surfed a bit, Teutonics, and didn't find much van stuff but lots of pickup discussions. The 5.4L seems to spin about what you listed. jim

The truck will be a 2004 F250 XL crew cab, four wheel drive, automatic transmission, 5.4 V-8 gasoline engine. My goal here is to maximize fuel mileage for this vehicle, so I am also selecting 235 tires and standard mirrors. I am unsure if I need the 3.73 ratio or the 4.10 ratio. 75% of my driving is on county roads at 50 mph, which is only 1380 rpm with the 3.73 and 1520 rpm with the 4.10. Is this too much lugging at 1380 rpm as I come to small hills in the road? Will the transmission always be shifting out of overdrive? The rest of the time I am running 70 mph down the highway, which is 1940 rpm with the 3.73 and 2130 rpm with the 4.10.

Mine is a 2007 E350 with V10. It runs 64 mph at exactly 2000 RPM. I'm pretty sure mine has the highway gear, 3.73. At 70 mph it is about 2200 - 2300 I believe. All that said, my speedometer reads about 2.5 mph different than my GPS indicates.

Since you're researching this, it's probably worthwhile to see what transmission you have. Mine is the five speed automatic. I don't know what yours would have. And I don't know if there's a difference in the top gear ratio.

There is a VIN tag on the driver's door post. Near the bottom will be an axle code. (AX) Post the code.

Sounds about right for 3.73 gears. The engine has a fixed relationship with wheel speed when the torque converter is locked. It's a direct connection all the way from the flywheel to the rear wheels. The only way that could ever vary was if the torque converter was unlocked, which is common during acceleration, or the transmission is slipping.

My Transit has slightly smaller tires and turns almost 2,200 RPMs at 70 MPH.

Axle code is 24, so it's a 3.73 rear end. Transmission code is Q, so it's a 4R75E 4-speed. So I guess 2100 is about right,. Thanks for all of the responses!
