i just bought an 88 ranger with a 2.9 and a 5 spd
the top end is cooked as i have found most 2.9's to get. the main problem however is that after 10-15 mins of running the engine suddenly cuts down to half power...no warning no lights but it stays like this till you shut it down and let it cool off.....where should i start

I would start with a vacuum guage and check the vacuum while the engine is cold, and then again when the problem starts. It could be the heat is expanding a crack or hole in one of the hoses. Next I would do a compression check to see what you have. Look at the plugs and wires while you have them out. Both of these tools are pretty inexpensive and are valuable for troubleshooting. Try those first and let us know what you find.
