Hey ya'll,
What sounds better on 03' 4.0 SOHC, MagnaFlow, Gibson, Flowmaster etc.... Going to put in an exhaust, probably 2", but want as close as possible sound of a V8. Not too loud but has a good sound both at idle and accelerating? I don't want a drone sound though, (kills me)! Any good testaments to gleen from? Much would be appreciated.. Thanks...
To who's ear? That's really hard to answer, some perfer tone, some like them loud. I've heard good things about both Flowmaster and Gibson. I have two small mufflers on my Ranger and like the tone. Good luck.

I'd go with Borla or Magnaflow. Flowmasters are perhaps some of the worst mufflers made so far as exhaust flow is concerned. I'm not familiar with Gibson exhausts.
Also, if aluminized or stainless versions are offered (all Borla exhausts are stainless) pony up the extra money for the stainless exhaust so your hard earned money doesn't rust away in a couple of years.
I've got a '03 4.0L. I had the shop do cat-back with 2.25" pipe and a 14" Magnaflow muffler. It sounds pretty good below 2000 RPM. As the RPM increases, it sounds more and more like rice. It's not bad...but it's definitely NOT a V8 sound. It's impossible to get V8 sound from 6 cylinders. I've had Flowmaster, Magnaflow, and Powerflow and I'm tellin' ya' if you want a V8 sound the only way to get it is buy a V8. Overall I like my Magnaflow though. I just wish I had stayed with 2" pipe.
OK, I heard that stayin with two inch is better, cause it keeps the low end torqe there, so going dual with smaller, say 1.75'' tubing be about the same to keep the back pressure there? Or just stayin with a single exhaust be the best bet? Maybe using a higher or more aggressive muffler and then a resonator to kill most of the noise be another option?
