Aerostar owners/ Ford techs: Has anyone installed one of those oil filter relocation kits on their Aerostar? It moves the oil filter to a convenient location, while using the one quart filter, a Motorcraft FL1-A or equivilant. Any tips or ideas for this project would be appreciated, with your experience. Seems to me, the oil filter would be in a better position instead of directly above the starter on the 3.0 V6. Thanks in advance...
Getting to the filter is not that bad compared to other cars I've owned. The only thing I need to watch is not getting burned on the hot exhaust pipe.
As for the spillage: the mounting angle of the filter is o.k. in order not to create large spillage. I always cover the starter with paper towels that will absorb eventual spillage. The filter spills more oil the faster you turn it to remove it. Do it slowly, cover your starter and you'll be fine.

I have an 88 and when I put the new motor in I used a Transdapt kit (bought it through PAW for about 45.00) and mounted the filter block on the side of the fuel filter housing (beteen the fuel filter cover and the transmission). It has been there for about 30K and it hasn't been hit by any road debris which was my only concern. Oil changes are now totally clean! The only weak spot is the hoses - they are not as good of quality as the ones the local hose shop made for my F250 with a 352.
I do carry a spare filter and some oil "just in case" since the filter is lower and more exposed than stock.
