Break in suggestions?

Just got an 05 Escape a couple of weeks back.

Anyone have any break in suggestions?

One other thing, I believe the recomended oil change interval is 5k. Anyone have an thoughts (pro or con) on this. It's been 3k on all my other cars up to this point.

Thanks

Sam

dont forget to check your lug nuts after 1000 miles. Torque should be 100 lb/ft. When I check it at 500 and 900 miles, torques setting was fine. Then at 950 miles, the rear wheel is making squeeking noise when driving at 5-30mph. . I check the lug nuts. On each wheel, 3 out of 5 nuts are not tight enough.

I changed the oil and filter on the wife's 05 Tribute at 1400 miles and then will change it at 5K, 10K, 15k, etc. One good thing about the oil/filter for the Escape/Tribute: the required oil, 5W-20, is easily found at Wal-mart, Motorcraft 5W-20, at $1.42/quart and is a synthetic blend. It is made/blended by Conoco Phillips to Ford specs. The filter, Motorcraft FL-820S, is also easily found there. Both filter and oil are very very good according to posters on the bob is the oil guy site and here also (based on oil analysis where they will pull oil samples and send off to oil analysis companies).

I drive 35k+ a year on my vehicle and change the dino oil every 5k miles. I typically keep a vehicle 200k miles and I haven't had one smoke or blow in 20+ years. You can use synthetics and/or oil analysis if you prefer. The biggest killer I've seen is people running low on oil or engines gumming due to constant short trips. The first problem is due to ignorance and the second problem warrants more frequent changes. If you make constant short trips then I'd definitely recommend more frequent changes and/or oil analysis.
