According to this brochure, F-1s came with stake bodies. I have seen them posted on eBay a few times too, although what is on eBay is not necessarily what it seems to be.

Barry,

I have a set of running boards off of a F-6, other than needing a knotch cut into them to fit under the body, they are identical to the ones on my panel. I would assume that if they fit an F-1 panel they would fit a F-1 with a flat bed. I know the short boards off of the F-7s and 8s are wider due to the wider fenders on those models but I thought the smaller short boards would fit everything from F-1s to F-6s. I am using a chassis from a pickup for my panel, I had to remove the rear most running board bracket, the panel only needs the two front ones on each side.

The running boards on a stake body were shorter, I was looking in my parts books and I was incorrect on my earlier statement. According to the parts book, THe F-1 platform, stake body shared running boards with the larger rack bodied trucks. They are 43-1/2 inches long. THey also list a set that is 70-7/8 inches and are for the closed cab or platform. These had the squared off end on the rear. THe picklups are 70-1/4 inches long. There's also another set that's listed for closed cabs, 70-1/2 inches. That's 4 different sets techically can fit a F-1. The panel truck boards are also 43-1/2 inches long. Bob is probably correct in saying you could cut the notch and use those boards on a panel.

Barry,

What do you mean "Bob is probably correct"? I know I am correct, I have my original set and the replacement set from the F-6, and they are identical.

Just giving you a hard time, you know I, like a lot of others here, concider you the master but, it is fun to show the master up once in a while

Bob, I used the wrong word. I should have said" is" correct. I'm no master at this, but love to poke around in the parts books to keep my Ford parts experience fresh! I will admit I'm still learning on these trucks. THere's always a new "wrinkle" in the things Ford did back then. As long as we all keep the passion for these trucks alive, we all wwill learn!

Barry,

I think there may have been a bit of variety in what they used for running boards on F1 stake trucks. I wonder if everything went by the book. My 49 F1 stake bed uses longer running boards. They sound like the ones you described as being for the platform or closed body. They are squared off at the end and attach to stuby little rear fenders. They look similar but are definitly different from F1 pickup running boards. My running boards are pretty ruff but I guess I will live with them. I don't think I'll run across another set. BTW, what is closed body??? Panel??

I have torn apart quite a few parts trucks over the years and I have seen quite a few "original" trucks that others have owned. I have found there is usually no two trucks alike. There is alway something that is in a truck that is not listed in official company literature. I suppose a lot of items might have been installed by the dealers bach then and there's been plent of time between assembly and now for all kinds of alterations to be made.

THe closed body is something different than the panel truck. It seems to be listed as a separate model, but the info is terrible on what exactly the difference is. I'm trying to figure it out. If I come across anything that tells me what it is, I'll post it.
