Do big tires help cut down on tailgators?

I recently moved to the mecca of aweful drivers. The Denver metro area. There's actually signs that read "it is unlawful not to move accidents off road". I saw a dodge durango simply drive right off the freeway, it wasn't even a turn. There's a disproportionate amount of Chevy Avalanches, and as we all know, you gotta be nuts to drive one of those. ("I'd like my truck in plastic, please")
Have you all noticed a reduction in people being a**holes towards you as you evolve your trucks into more bada** offroad mobiles?
Does anyone have an interesting tailgator remedy?
A friend of mine used to always spot a cat/deer/marmit crossing the road and he'd lock 'em up. Three times he did this. Three times he collected $10,000+ and damages for claiming whiplash. I'm tempted.
Another friend would toss pennies up in the air. He called it "pennies from heaven". It was a boom for windshield replacement guys.
Another friend did the same thing with Mother's cookies. He didn't like the white icing covered ones, but loved the pink ones. Go figure. JT

Yes. People tend not to mess with you as much when you can crush them at will.

I noticed it helps alot with the people going 45 in the fast lane. When all they see is headlight when they look out their rearveiw mirror they move over pretty quick. Even more so at night.

I noticed after I munched my (passenger side rear) fender wheeling that I get alot more respect. I guess people look at you and say, "holy crap, that guys truck is all banged up so he probably doesn't care what gets in his way". In a sense, that is correct, cuz if you mess with me in something smaller than what I drive, you're gonna lose. I also have a dropdown hitch hanging off the back of my truck to prevent any bumper decapitations.

Tried a great little trick when I first put my twinstick in and installed the new dual boot on it. I don't have the edge of the boot screwed down so I stuck one of those long blue funnels down there and then bought a carton of BB's. Whenever someone would get close I'd throw a small handfull down the funnel. I figured that way it wouldn't be obvious I was throwing stuff at their vehicle (like with the penny trick) but they'd pretty much come to a complete stop.

I also like to just put my foot to the floor from time to time but the girlfriend doesn't enjoy that too much.

Put a big 55W tractor light on the rear bumper...that usually helps at night.

i like to have my windshield squirters aimed a little high so that when someones behind me it sprays on their car too. it's not much, but its annoying. other measures i've resorted to are dumping full drinks out my window and food. i know its littering, but i justify it because food products are usually highly biodegradeable and will be ate by critters. milkshakes are great to dump out the window.....gets all over the persons windshield. i've seen roadkill kicked up onto peoples cars also...thats just gross.

If you drive a stick just downshift and get off the clutch. Easy enough.

I don't know.....

If anything, I've seen an INCREASE of idiots out to munch my monster. When it was stock (and with all the other vehicles I have), I really didn't get cut-off or pulled-out-in-front-of for the most part. Ever since I exceeded 9 inches of lift people think they need to pull out right in front of me especially when there's not a soul behind me.....this usually happens on the small highways and frontage roads. So I get right on their bumper (sometimes can't even see the car in front of me). THAT gets their attention!! Unless like the other day there was this broad on her cell phone (REALLY!!! Was there any doubt?) It didn't even phase her....so the wife gave her the finger and a few wonderful words as I blew past her. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

ya know it really depends.

i have had a line of cars get in the right lane b/c i was closing in on them at 70mph with my brights on and cruise on by them, after passing they all got back over (that was a good feeling!)

other times I have had ppl deliberatly sit through a green light just before it turns red again and then go so that i would have to sit through another light. all hell would have broken loose had i been able to find them...cowards!

and then of course towing stuff with dad's PSD stock height I have ppl ALL the dam tome pull out like it's nothing. some idiots just don't understand that an extra 10K pounds (tractor, implements, and trailer) will NOT stop on a dime even with good trailer brakes. I like merging with a trailer b/c i will get in the lane i need to and if someone wants to challenege me they have to kiss my trailer .

Ivan that's awesome!!! i have seriously thought about installing some sort of soup can on the top of my rear axle and attach it with a hinge. run a cable up to the cab to hold it in place. then before leaving the house fill it with jacks and if someone ever starts tailing me just loosen the cable and let the soup can dump it's contents! instant flat with no time to read the tag #

My truck can't go too fast but it can get out of its way and most other peoples too. People usually just pass me but for the few that like to closely inspect the rear bumper, i just start running over stuff (curbs, cans, roadcones) and swerving like a madman with some AC/DC blaring and trying to sing along as well. They generally get the picture this dude is crazy and will keep their distace. Locking the wheels as you come to a stop and turning around and staring at them works wonders too! Sorry, I have no tolerance for stupid people!

funny stuff to do

I like driving thru puddles and lettin the TSL's fling water and mud/road dirt all over the cars that **** me off. Lol if someone really and i mean really ****ed us off we would empty our spitters out the window and it would fly back and hit their car and thats pretty nasty. my personal favorite thing is when someone has their window down and they are next to my pipes, theres nothing like making a girl scream (i mean that in two ways) but for this post i mean because it scares them how loud it is. True dual 2 1/2" str8 pipe. nothing like it. its basically open headers getting shot out the back with a better tone. Gets me tickets but girls like it even tho some pretend not ot sometimes. on a seperate note, my bronco is now straight axled, it is such a world of difference! it was a bitch to do but it was so worth it. 44's at 70... interesting site

Personnal, the bigger the truck or more modified or expensive looking, the more people to pull out in front. The best thing i found for people pulling out is to put a tow chain on the front grill guard. They see that chain and they think twice about pulling out. As for tailgaters, just lock them up or tap the brakes. Works everytime.

I learned this from my dad who has driven everything legally allowed on the road from a Ford Pinto to a Sterling tandem axle, to 18 wheelers. When somebody tailgates you keep going at the speed you are, reach over and flip your hazards on and off reall fast so that they flash just once. All the guy behind you sees is a flash of red light and thinks you tapped the breaks he slows down while you stay at the same speed.
