Question Muffler from a '98 Cobra......

The stock trashcan muffler on my 5.0 F150 is in bad shape. A friend recently pulled the stock muffs off of his '98 Cobra, so I snagged one. I figure that that muffler should flow as well as, or better than the old stocker that's currently on my truck, shouldn't it? A buddy can weld it in place, so for a free fix, would you say that it's worth it?

If you need one I say why not? are the inlet and outlet the same size as stock or bigger? If they are smaller don't bother.

Hmm, not sure. I believe the stock exhaust on the Cobra is 2.25". Is stock on the trucks 2.25" or 2.5"? :insert head-scratching smilie here:

The inside diameter of the sleeves on the inlet and outlet of the muffler will be slightly bigger than 2.25", the pipe will be 2.25" od or bigger or smaller as the case may be.

If I recall, the stock muffler on a 5.0 truck of that era is 2.25"

Thumbs up

It was indeed 2.25". We got the muffler welded/clamped in on Saturday. The old muffler almost completely disintegrated upon removal, so this is a vast improvement in that respect. However, my truck is, without a doubt, now the quietest F150 in the southeast! LOL! Holy cow is it quiet! It's like driving a Honda - "Is it even running?" I can't tell any real difference in power, so I guess it's not really hurting (or helping) anything. It'll do until the tailpipe finishes rusting and then I'll get the whole sh'bang replaced.

Thanks all,

Wade
