i recently went 4-wheelin in my 04 fx4 (nothing too nasty). when i returned home the next day, i promptly washed off all the mud from the underside of the truck. i referenced the owners manual before washing to make sure that i didn't spray anything water that i shouldn't. the book says just not to spray the battery or the air intake system. i made sure that i steered clear of those two pieces. after i was finished, i was going to drive the truck around to dry it off. well, the truck would not start. it cranked, but did not start. i checked the fuel pump reset switch and even let set for 20 hours, and it still did not start. so i had it towed to the local dealership to get checked out. they have had it 3 days now and still do not have the first clue as to the problem. i told them everything i have put in here and they said nothing i did should have caused this problem. has anyone experieced anythng similar. i want my truck back and would like to give the service tech any info that might speed up this process. by the way they have ruled out the fuel pump and a driver module for the pump - according to them.
Did you have the keys in your pocket when you washed the truck, did they get wet, did you put the keys in the ignition wet or damp, did you try the other key ????
No the keys did not get wet, the truck cranks but does not start. To date, the dealership has replaced a driver module for the fuel pump and the fuel pump. Now they think it is the wiring harness that is bad and they will be replacing that today. So far my truck has been at the dealer for a total of twelve days.
The reason I asked about the keys is you truck has a security system (PATS). There is a chip in your key that lets the PCM activate the ignition/Fuel system
Well, after the dealer replaced the fuel pump driver module and the fuel pump, they decided to test to see if those parts were actually gettng power. Turns out they were not. So they had to replace the wiring harness that supplies power to the fuel pump. Now it runs better than it ever has. It took them 10 days to actually test the power before just replacing parts in hopes of fixing it, but they finally got it done.
Ya there is one thing I dont like on the wiring is the main frame loom connection is right under the drivers door on the frame exposed to everthing just a cover over it. Glad you got your truck back
