when I back up I can hear that squeak-squeak-squeak noise, but not forward, I applied the brakes when backing up and it still did it. couldn't be the brakes could it?
Yah mine did the same thing you are experiencing now, the rear driveshaft u-joint would make a squeak, squeak, noise just backing up, replace that u-joint and that noise will go away guaranteed I promise you that...
Definately the u-joints. Mine would squeak when backing up - and when
decellerating on the highway. How I figured out that it was the u-joint was backing up. The squeaking was way more frequent than the tire rotation - easy - what turns faster than the wheels? - the drive shaft.
It took me about 21/2 - 3 hours. I wish I had a press. It was very annoying trying to hammer out the bearing end caps without ruining everything.
While you're there replace both. You'll sleep better, you will proudly look at your truck more often.
Buy American, Canadian or German bearings. Do not buy anything without a grease nipple.
