Stacks and tone

I have a 1995 F-250. The engine is a 351. I plan on getting headers and will be running true duals to 2 flowmaster 40 series and plan on running stacks up through the bed. Does anyone know what I can expect in tone? Anyone who runs stacks wants their stuff loud. I want it to scream. Anyone who has any input it will be greatly appreciated. thanks

A friend and I took a truck we use on the logging roads (its a '69, '74, '76, and '79 Ford) We put dual stacks on and that little 300 sounded pretty good, you could only really hear them when you put yer head out the window on Accel/decel, it sounded like thunder off in the distance when it backfired, kinda fun actually. I am looking at stacks off a kenworth at one of the wreckers. with glasspacks on my Dodge once I get it set up for the tuff truck comps. 4 or 5" stacks will enhance the deep tones from the mufflers.

I have stacks on my 68 F-2580 with a 390 the truck is very loud. It is just a play truck so it doesn't mater but if I had to drive it more offten I would deiffinitly want it quiter. Keep in mind it has no mufflers on it. Hope this helps.

Thanks alot Kevin. I am at the age right now where I want it to sound like a machine. Flowmaster mufflers should be quieter than just straight pipes but should definitely have a nice tone to them. thanks alot

I know that it will sound good. Can anyone tell me how to run the pipes. Since I do not have to go to the gas tank Is it possible to run headers back to the bed and take it up from there? Does 2 1/4" piping sound good to the mufflers and then 3" stacks? Is this possible?

I'd run the mufflers right on the headers, then get 2, 2 1/4" pipes with 90 degree bends in them, cut your holes in the bed floor, and then run them up behind the cab in the bed. A truck stop should have some chrome stand offs to mount them to the cab, this will make it look nice.

Are you mounting them in the corners of the box? or will the pipes come into the box between the frame rails? You should put some on your van there Fogal.

I plan on running the pipes through the bed. What do you mean by running the mufflers on the headers? What are standoffs- Never had any experience with stacks before. Any help will be appreciated.

Run the mufflers right after the headers, as close as you can get, and standoffs are brackets basically. They will bolt to the cab and then the stacks so the stacks are rigid and don't flop around, but they will be chromed and "pretty" trust me, you will need them.

You can get sidepipes from Summit Racing, Jegs, JC Whitney, ect... (all Pertronix I think) that will work OK. Don't think I'd use the big truck exhaust for it. The ones mentioned above also come with mufflers.

I'm putting them on my truck (headers, 2.5" S-pipes, 3" sidepipes) but they'll exit in front on the rear tire (shortbed stepside), not above the cab.

As a general rule, the bigger then engine, the better the rumble.

my buddy got his stacks from ebay. they are 5" and were 5feet long. he got them both for $120 and shippping wasnt that bad. hes running them wide open and let me tell you they are loud. he used flexpipe for the last foot or so of his installation. what ever you do, dont use the slotted 3" ones from JC, they look real nasty. also he got peterbuilt clamps and attached them to the back rail of his bed. i wish i had some pictures to show you guys..its reallly an awesome setup.
