I went and got my oil changed at my local dealer and nearly got in a fight. Let me start by telling you my truck is lifted 8" and while I was waiting for the dealer to finish it was taking over an hour and a half when they told me it was going to take only a half hour. when I walked around the corner to see if they finished my truck I catch this idoit standing on my bumper with dirty shoes and nothing covering my bumper with my truck not even on the lift. To make a long story short they scratch my whole bumper and the lesson I learned was to start changing my own oil. My question is for you do it yourselfers. where is the cheapest place to buy diesel oil and oil filters so I can change my own oil? I thank you in advance.

If I was you the cheapest place I'd be gettin my oil changed was at the dealership that messed your bumper up--LIFETIME. geez, and I thought my place was BAD. but seriously? Do a search through this forum--there's tons of opinions on this very subject. you should be able to get an engine oil filter for less than 20 bucks and depending on the oil from 6/gal to 4/qt. It's all about your personal preferences. Good luck and welcome to a great site
Go to www.filter1.com. You'll get the same oil filter as from the dealer for under $12.00. If you get about $40 or so of filters etc the shipping is free & no tax. How can you do better than that. A lot of people go to Wall Mart for oil. Take care.
I really don't like other people working on my stuff either. Way too many times there prime concern is how quickly they can do the job instead of how well they can do the job. Rick
SBV 45, thank you for the info. I was wondering why you only but 13.5 quarts. Does it take more than that? thanks again.
There is a 15 quart capacity but about a quart and a half stay up in the high pressure reservoir, pump and rails. Too much oil seems to create foaming from windage from the crank. A big vortex if you will. Foaming will cause some erratic performance especially at idle. Some of the dip sticks are of varying lengths coupled with the dip stick tubes not being uniform seating can give some funny results. Fill up with 13.5 quarts. Run the engine for a few minutes and check for leaks, etc. Then wait 15-20 minutes and check your oil level. That is the level you should keep.
I change it myself with the Fumoto... One of the Utah dealers does the 6.0 for $51 including the oil & filter. Good deal for someone (else). They laughed when I told them they just wanted to get my truck up in the air to see what they could sell me via their 18 point maintenance check.
Another question for you guys. How do this Wix filters compare to the factory filters? thanks
If you call filter1 they will tell you the 6.0 psd oil filter is not a wix. It is a Racor. If you buy an oil filter at dealer, carparts store, STP brand, or Filter1, they are all the same in the same shrink wrap & same xeroxed directions for install. Take care, Rick
