Just found out about this tonight...apparently there has been a major fire and one electrocution caused from HP power cord problems, and of course, it's been kept fairly quiet.
For information, go here: http://h30022.www3.hp.com/home1/
Many people have HP printers, I have 2 myself. I went into Staples tonight to look into a high quality photo printer, and they didn't have ANY HP printers on the shelves!! Staples management required them to pull the products across the country until HP fixes the problem. Supposedly the same deal at the other major retailers.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Mar-02 AT 03:27 AM (EST)]Oh great, I bought ANOTHER defective piece of electronics. Just my luck this one could catch fire. Oh well, I guess I will order their new and improved cord. BTW thanks for the heads up! As always you guys are great.
Thanx guys/girls.
I have just ordered my replacement power cord. I had not heard of this problem.
I'm happy that someone is looking out for us ignorant folk.
According to the info at the listed site, only GRAY power cords are defective. If your power cord is not GRAY, you're ok. If it is gray, then go to the site and read the instructions.
