I posted before that when the truck heated up after towing it was very hard to start again, taking 10 or more seconds of cranking. Well, the dealer hooked it up to there special computers and found out that my EGR acuator was bad. They replaced it and all is now well. On a side note, my truck only had 10,800 miles on it and the EGR actuator they took out was COVERED in soot and carbon. To me it looked like the carbon made the valve stick.Snapped one quick picture before they took it away from me but its pretty blurry.
and if anyone read the post by xstrokin (not dissin ya bud) about the 100 extra ft/lb of torque or lack there of--I can do without the torque for the clean motor.
...so OK...been unplugged since early July. Stopped flow of exhaust gasses back to the system.
After looking at that picture, with the valve closed, I have to think the junk is still getting to the gate in a least some minimum volume. Even without any particular air velocity to move the gasses & junk to the valve there will be a natural tendency for it to travel there and really load up over time. Possibly a short period of time.
If this collection of residue builds up for say 30,000 miles, for example, can this cause problems somewhere else in the engine? Or will it just continue to be released into the atmosphere at a potentially higher rate?
And this senerio?:
If it does build up at the valve point and you do need to take your Beast in for warranty service, it has been recommended that we plug-in and reactivate the EGR valve. When reactivated, with a presumed ultra heavy residue, should we anticipate chunks of debris hitting / being released back into the system?
And if chunks do fly what could be the predictable outcome?
Sorry for these questions at this late date but, first time I have seen a valve trashed like this.
I sure wish my camera could look that far in the future. How many miles do you reckon she'll have on her by 08/30/2010?
Just imagine the possibilities...
I don't know how my date got changed but I noticed it the second I posted it. I knew someone would point it out. Not bad for a 2004 six-year-old truck with only 11,000m!
