I'm guessing that you are talking of small blocks, I'm thinking they are looking at up and coming NASCAR and other racing venues which will be allowing OHC motors. With an after market block and parts you would see small blocks going upwards of 12,000 to 14,000 rpms and still be in 'stock' bodied cars. Which is to bad as they will no longer have that wonderful V8 growl but sound like the whining, screaming Indy cars.
I think the 5.4s are torquey, & the 302s were torquey for their size. Have to remember these are smaller than the 390s, etc. but they still make good torque. The V10 is still only 415 cu. in. & they make big torque.
i found a diesel engine that will beat anything here i wonder what it would take to make this engine swap in my expy http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/
