Those of you waiting on cars and trucks with 4.6 or 5.4 V-8's might have a long wait. Ford has discovered that the V-8's have defective heads. Looks like its not just a manufacturing issue, but that Ford has to redesign the casting. Might be '05 before you should buy any V-8.
Note that with the GT, Ford may not recall the cars, but only issue a TSB, which means that if you don't specifically complain, they won't fix the cars.
A rather strange story, in that they state, "...The 2005 model year 4.6L and 5.4L engines in question were built with defective cylinder heads..." I thought the 4.6 and 5.4 had different heads; what are the odds that BOTH motors would have the same defect? It also says that "...Ford Motor Company has instructed assembly plants to stop shipping certain 2005 model year vehicles..." It doesn't say how many vehicles are involved. 10? 100? 100,000? I just wish these "sources" would provide relevant details. Theyre trying to make it sound like Ford Motor Company is about to shut down, which I don't think is the case.
As for recall vs. TSB, a manufacturer can only issue a recall if it is a safety-related problem. I really don't think Ford is going to wait until a GT owner complains about his motor before they take action on this. They will be in touch with these people, and will not wait till they complain to their dealers.
Second-rate journalism, at best. I've never made excuses for Ford, but they (Blue Oval News) could have gotten a little more in-depth info before rushing this to press.

Yes, but Ford has a habit of not notifying customers about defective products. Ford likes to cross its fingers and hope that the customer won't notice or will think that the problem is the customer's fault. "Don't ask, don't tell".
It's a good way to save money but a lousy way to build customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Of course, the money that they save they piddle away on rebates.

You're a Ford dealer, what has come through official Ford channels? My guess is zilch.
Wow, big story for all those interested in a new purchase. I'm assuming the article is referring to the 5.4, 3-valve triton motors, don't understand how the 4.6 could be involved with a different type head. All the 2004 v-8's must be involved as well. In any event I'm going to hold off my purchase until more information is known. Maybe it will be just a small number of motors and won't be such a big deal.
The new Mustang is going to be equipped with the 3V engines. 4.6 and 5.4 cylinder heads were the same in 2V form, so I would not doubt they would be the same in 3V. A lot of news on BON reads like the Enquirer, but some is legit. I think it has to do with the source they get it from. This is not a corporate spokesperson giving them this info. A lot of times it's a guy working right at a plant who does not want his name mentioned.
There was something in my work e-mail the other day about F-150s, but it was rather vague. When I get back to work tomorrow I'll post it here and you can read it for yourselves.
Here's the message I received:
"..The previous stop pull on the Regular Cab and Super Cab orders with the 5.4L engine (665) has been lifted and is available for scheduling..."
Like I said, it was vague, but I believe it applies to what we were talking about.
