Have you looked under the hood and on the doors for a label with general info, hopefully including the paint code? Also, a paint supply shop should be able to help you on this. For example, if it's dark blue chances are there was only one dark blue for that year; they simply look it up and tell you the code.

www.paintscratch.com they have a pretty good paint selection guide, and even tells you where to find the codes.

I worked in a automotive paint store in Reno. I believe the paint code is in the glove-box on a decal. Auto manufacturer's make different shades of colors to give you some variety. You wouldn't believe how many variation's of white, red, blue and even black there are.
