Help- I have just bought a 2001 F-250, 7.3, automatic with 95,000k.
First day- Tranny OD light came on and locked up in 2nd gear-
Back to dealership. Replaced speed sensor on rear diff. and sent me on my way.
30 minutes down the road and same thing happens. Computer code reads p603-
Dealership bought and installed a brand new computer for truck. I went and test drove- Still the exact same problem, and p-603 again. Dealership doesn't know what to do next so I told them I would ask you guys. Please help!
My dealer is telling me that the 603 code just tells them that the battery has been unplugged. Does that sound right? I still cant drive the truck for more than 30 minutes.
If it starts flashing while you are driving, most of the time it is indicating the tran temp is getting high. However, it will also flash if there is a problem with the tranny. Does it flash empty or when you are towing? I have had mine flash a couple times empty when it was 95+ degrees, cresting the top of a hill stopped by the time I was half way down the other side.
I'm still looking for a code link for you.... I can't find it yet, but before tonight
I'll get you something.
Cheers
It happens when completely empty. Have not had the opportunity to tow with it yet. Also, the engine revs up to 1200 rpm when I put it in park, when the light is flashing. Outside temperature has been in the 70's to mid 80's. Here in the Northwest it stays fairly mild.

Okay, dealer says they have checked all this, yet the light continues to flash after a half hour of driving. Light will quit flashing after awhile, but then will start flasshing and locks up in second gear again. Mainly when at a stoplight or any time starting off in first gear after 30 minutes.
Have they said anything about your torque converter.
because that is what what im getting is clutch slippage and temp over condition and the p-603.
Not sure what direction im going to take on this either.
My O.D. light was also was flashing and the tranny shop told me that the code was for torque converter slip. I did not get the code number from him though, sorry.
I will ask them about this first thing tomorrow. They seem to be lost as I said earlier and my service advisor is waiting for calls back from Ford headquarters. Thank you very much for your help guys. Let you know when I know something
when it locks up in second does it just not want to go to third? Will it not shift back to first? If you keep accelerating when it locks in second till you are around 3000 rpm and let off accel fast will it jump to third?
Heres the scoop. When it locks up in second, cripple/limp home mode I am told, It will shift up still, but I have to rev it up high like 3000 rpm as you noted. I can still manually down shift it with the selector. Now, the dealership has told me to come and pick up the keys as they think it is fixed. Since it is a driveability problem the want me to drive it. I asked them what they did and the technician told me that he cleaned all wiring harness connectors with some miracle cleaner. The funny thing is that before he did this we had a code P-603 on his scanner and now the code has dissappeared. I am going to drive it until I get it to act up again (if I can) and will let you know what happens. Crossing my fingers!!
