I just put a new gasket in the rear end differential coverplate ... and put teflon tape on the drain plug ... but it drips ever so slowly. I can't tell for sure if it is the drain plug or the gastket, but I think it is the drain plug.
Anyone ever have this problem before? Ever get it fixed?
If the cover and housing are both square/flat surfaces, the gasket should seal it. If I have irregularities I smear a thin coat of RTV silicon on the gasket - don't use too much as it doesn't compress well.
Also, I never use teflon tape on the plug. It is a tapered plug and gets tighter the farther it is screwed in. The tape bunches up creating paths for leaks. Try it without the tape and see what happens.
