EFI manifold compatiblity?

A coworker has a 1988 7.5L that needs replaced, and he has a line on an older carbed engine.

I have reason to believe the Carby cylinder heads may not match up with the EFI intake bolt pattern.
Is this an issue? Solution?

Any other possible concerns would be nice to know.

how far off are the port like far enough off to require major work to line up or just a little grinding?

I have seen people use Devcon to build the bottom of the ports up a bit and then file it flush with the manifold. That is putting an EFI Intake on a carb motor.
