Well I have access to an 8 lug dana 60 rear-end for free. I was thinking that building a prerunner would need a little heavier front suspension. It seems that there is quite a few 250s littering the few salvage yards around here were I live. Living here in California we have lots of dessert to play in.
I've got a '65 250 and replaced the entire front suspension with one from a '76 crewcab F250. I found there are several options of suspensions for the same year, some more heavyduty than others. Mine would be ideal for what your looking for in that the crewcab had longer travel than the std trucks...essentially a factory lift kit. The "I" beams are bent to allow correct camber at a higher ride height. Worked out great for me. Ended up using the original springs with about 1.250" spacers under them. So now my truck is nearly level, looks much better IMP.
A prerunner is a desert truck. They are used to pre-run an desert race such as the baja 1000. They also are used to get the pit supplies out to a remote spot for the race car or truck. The desert is one of the few places that you still can go 100 miles per hour and not get a ticket.
