I asked this about a year ago but didn't have any luck. My 88 Ford E-350 RV lost it's cruise control. I have an 89 E-150 van that I can swap modules on to check it but I can't find it. I was told it was on the firewall by the steering tube but I disconnected a couple of different cables on boxes found on my 89 van to see if that was the CC module but they weren't. I guess I need more specific info about where it is. My Haynes manual doesn't show it's location.
I would check the fuses first, it's likley the switches are just dirty. Pull the steering wheel cover off and spray some WD40 down in around the switches. This fixed our '83 when it was acting up.
I forgot to say that I checked fuses and all is well. Since the horn works I don't believe that the clock spring is bad so I'm pretty sure it could be the module. I just need to find it.
This just crapped out while on a Florida trip last year while in motion so I don't believe it's switch related.
The module is on the support that surrounds the steering column.
It's low on the right hand side just below the heater duct.
Black box with two connectors and a small metal case relay.
Also the speed sensor could be at fault, another part that can be swapped between the two, but you must keep the appropriate speedometer gear with the vehicle it came from.
