I have a 2000 F-250 4x4 PSD with a few mods. This morning the truck would not change gears. It would not go from 1st to 2nd gear without me having to let off the gas at a higher rpm. After that, it would change quickly from 2nd to 3rd around 40 to 45mph. I can turn the OD off while going down the road and it does not change the gears. The OD light does not flash or anything. I reloaded my Superchips program, but that did not change anything. I do not tow or haul with this truck. Any suggestions???
Thanks
Thanks V10man,
Yes the speedo is working fine. The guy at the transmission shop told me it was the IAS. I don't see how this can be, although I could be wrong. It might have something to do with vacuum. I don't know. I am at my wits end. I hate to change things and not get any difference. That could get expensive.
Fordafied
There is a sensor in the rear differential that controls shifting that often goes bad on those trucks--it's about an $8 dollar part. It will give your tranny all the characteristics you are describing. It only takes seconds or minutes to replace. It's really not a speedo sensor, but a SPEED sensor. I don't think it has anything to do with the speedometer.
V10 you are exactly correct!
OK, I replaced the VSS on the rear end and still have the same thing. Whoever said changing it is easy is crazy. I had to drop the spare tire just to have room under there. Then, I had to finally get a chisel to get it off after rounding the threads with the 10mm wrench. Oh well, it got changed. Does any body know about the shifting solenoids and how to change them?
Thanks for ANY help.
When is last time you changed the fluid an filter?
To change shift solenoids you have to drop the pan ,not recommending that you do that until you have the trans chkd out by a shop that can test your trans. I know it can be expensive .
They can shift your trans via their diag computer and tell pretty much what is happening with shift pressures and solenoids up on a lift .
Dirty fluid ,clogged filters and loose valvebodies have been reported .
you don't have any other lights flashing on the dash do you? (overdrive cancel /abs/ chk engine )
Just some thoughts
No lights flashing (OD, ABS), that is what I don't understand. I had the whole 9 yards done to the tranny Tuesday. The problem started Monday morning. I am getting the test done Friday at the dealership.
On a side note: I could not believe the dealer was cheaper than NAPA on the VSS. That was a Kodak moment.
Well Ford found the problem to the tune of $2700. The new transmission will be in tomorrow. MAN I miss my truck. Ford gave me a 04 Escort for a loner. When I look to see if any cars are coming while trying to make a left hander, I actually look out of the rear passenger door window. I feel like a sardine.
