i've got the same problem. my aerostar is a 91 with 150 thou plus miles on it. a check of the archives shows it is a common complaint as aerocolorado said. guess its related to wear on the top end, lifters,rocker arms etc. i was going to ask if a valve adjustment would help,as i will be replacing the valve cover gaskets this spring, one guy said think of it as getting a few more miles per gallon,since everything is so well broken in...? just annoying. happy ford motoring rick p.s. by the way, how many miles on your engine and tranny?

1990 4.0 290000k on van but there is a new motor in it. 3 transmissions. i just bought the tranny dont know the km on the tran. i had lots of problems with the van that ticking noise is driving me bonkers .i have to change the head gasket soon you can see where the antifreeze is seeping through i will check it out then if you have any other problems reply maybe i can help
