1999 Explorer, 46,000 miles, extended warranty, in shop for minor repair. Informed that serpentine belt needed replacing. We authorized it. Now when car starts belt (I assume) squeaks. No squeak prior to replacement. Is this something that can be caused by incorrect repalcement ? Is there a simple fix or should it go back to shop ?
To se if it IS the belt spray a little water on it & start it up. If the noise is gone it is the belt. Maybe a different brand of belt would be quieter.
Yea, the idler likes to take flight from time to time....If you're lucky, you can do it while in warranty & have it take out the radiator, fan, waterpump so Ford can give you all that stuff free too just before your warranty pies.
I've had a constant whine that's progressingly getting worse in my '99 xlt V8 Explorer!!!
I can't even see the tension pulley to check if it's with-in range because the F'd placement.
Since Aug. '99 when I got it - nothing but problems! Hate it!!! I'm assuming it's the power steering pump but who knows?!!! Might be a pulley or bearing! If someone could give another suggestions, please do.
