Factory AIC

Hi Everyone

I've been thinking about buying the factory AIC for my 2002 7.3 F350. I have seen the articles about a "Homemade AIC" which is a little too involved for me. I realize the AIC from Ford is not cheap, but is it easy to install or do I need Ford to do that? I also do not understand completly how this works, I know it is supposed to keep idle at a cetain level to prevent "Wetstacking". I guess my other question is, is the AIC needed or can I get by without it?
Thanks

Unless you idle your truck a lot or want to idle it to warm it up in the winter you really don't need it. Ford shouldn't need to install it. There should be a plug for the unit so no wiring is needed.

Another option is to do what I did. I recently got a four position flip chip, and one of my positions is an 1100rpm "fast idle" program. When I'm warming up the truck, I just flip the switch, and when I'm ready to go, I flip it back. Simple, and a lot cheaper than an AIC.

Thanks, that makes sense. Just one other question regarding shut down. After driving at normal speeds 30-60 MPH around town, without carrying anything (no load) before shutting down the engine should I let it idle shortly or just shut it down right away? By the way I do not have any gauges yet.
Thanks in advance

AIS intake airbox

What is the cheapest price for the AIS intake and where can I buy it for that price?

You should probably let it idle for a minute or two to let the turbo spool down and cool off. If you don't, I've heard that over time the oil can get all gunked up and turn into a sort of sandy substance in the turbo. I'm sure others around here can explain it better than me.

Its called coking. Its something you should worry about when towing. If your just running around town. I wouldnt think twice about it. Unless you are overfueled and drive badly.

The AIC plugs in, no splicing or looking around. Just a plug under the steering wheel, and most come with a bracket that bolts into the trash can holder thingy. Takes a couple mins. As for cooling down, the consensus is to let it cool down to under 300 degrees. If not running hard, 2-3 mins should do it. I use a Turbo Diesel Lifesaver, set the parking brake, click it for how much time I need to cool down, remove the key, lock it and go on my way. Especially good when towing.
The AIC is great for winter, setting the charging function, or idling it up to keep the truck cool in summer or warm in winter when you are letting it idle.
