gauge, pump & solonoid problems?

Just got a 90 E-150 Conversion. It only uses the midship tank and the fuel gauge doesn't work. I can switch to the rear tank and it still runs off the mid tank. I put a new switch in and that didn't cure it. I think it is a ground but I'm not sure. I see there is an electrical solonoid but I don't know where it is located. I'm thinking it's not grounded properly. Every once in a while when it is on the rear tank it starts to miss and surge, so I switch back to the mid tank. Also one day when it was real hot the gauge came up to half full. I need some troubleshooting help and solonoid location. Can you help?

Ford had a recall on early 90s dual tanks. I think the pumps were a problem. The last solonoid I worked on was an earlier year, and it was on the inside of the frame, on the drivers side. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. As far as the solonoid, would it be hidden behind the midship tank possibly? I can't find it and don't know what I'm looking for.

When it comes to fuel, I say just go to the parts store and ask for a manual cut-off valve. Then you will never have problems with grounding, shorts etc... just hop out of the van reach under the body and turn the valve. Access to your fuel is too important to leave to the fancy eletrical devices...!!!

Just an opinion
