Today while replacing the spark plug wires on my daughters 93 Taurus, I noticed that the 3.0 liter has a IAV valve which looks just like the one on my truck. So I decided to see if they would interchange and if the problem would swap vehicles.
Unfortunately the wire harness plugs are slightly different...
Also I noticed a spring in the Taurus IAV that was not in the later Expy IAV.
93 Taurus IAV...
97 Expy IAV...
The truck is getting worse. I don't even drive it now because I don't trust it to start. While I think it's a long shot, I ordered another IAV through NAPA and will change it next week when it arrives. (Things move slow up here.)
Any thoughts on the differences between the two valves?
The 93 is pre OBD-II electronics. The 97 uses the motor in the IAC to control the idle plunger with more presision than the the older vehicles with the spring.
