1999 Expedition, 100k miles. Turn the key, engine cranks great, but dies when I turn the back back to run. If I push the gas pedal, the engine will continue to run, but when I let off (to idle) it dies. This has been happening intermittantly for about 2 weeks....maybe 3 times. Never has died on the road. In an hour or so it will start normally and run fine (if past performance holds true).
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S. - no check engine lights or anything like that...just the usual voltage light after the stall.
Ok...update. Went back out after an hour. Still no good. Started again using the gas pedal, and took the rpms up to about 4000 for about 2 seconds. Let off the gas....running fine...idled about 800 rpm. Turned 'er off. Started again with no problems (no throttle necessary).
Just though you guys could use as much info as possible.
It sounds like the classic Idle Air Control (IAC) going out. Mine did the same thing before it went. They're known to go bad. You could clean it, but it only lasts for a little while. It's better to replace, especially at 100k. It's located on the back of the throttle body near the firewall. I got mine for about $50. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. From reading the other threads, I assumed this might be the problem, but wanted to make sure. Anybody got a diagram/picture? I'm kinda new at this stuff. I am certainly mechanically inclined, but have never done much work on autos. Is this an easy remove and replace? Or should I pay the extra $10,000 to have the mechanic do it?
Been meaning to log back on and tell you guys thanks...
Replaced the IAC valve and everything has been perfect since, so...Thanks.
Just curious about one post that said it was a 10 minute job. To get to the little bolts, I had to use little bitty cresent wrench...took about 1.5 hours to get the part replaced. Is there a better tool? or technique?
i have a 97 f150 with a 5.4 and it really sucks having to stretch and reach all they way to the back to get to the IAC. i cleaned mie but i do plan on replacing it.
