Does anyone else use craigslist.org? It's a powerful force in the bay area. Without it, I wouldn't have found my apartment, my job, or the girl I'm dating.
I have never heard of it. Is it a bay area only thing?
www.craigslist.org got its start in the Bay Area as an online garage sale of Craigs stuff he was selling. Then his friends asked to post stuff, and it grew from there. If you go to the main page there are links to other CL cities around the country and the world.
I've used it successfully to buy tools, kids stuff like climbing structures and car seats, and renting out some storage on my property.
However, since there's only an informal presence by the list, there can be problems with scammers. I'd be very careful buying cars from ANYONE on the list.
There was a recent attempt at a scam from a guy who puported to be selling a Kubota tractor that was in storage, and he was in England. You could only see the tractor if he was there, and he neededc money to make the trip. yeah, right.
Check it out, even if you're not local to any of the cities. If you're a collector or hobbyist, you might be able to find something worth making a trip for.
I'm currently using it to sell two cars and trying to rent an apartment. The search is going great, I found a ton of places. I did however, notice that since I posted 2 cars at the same time, I got two emails back at the same time from the same guy with the same letter. All in caps promising to buy with all cash but some weird circumstance. I forget, I just deleted it.
It taught me all I needed to know about the "fine" folks of Boston. If I was ever depressed and needed someone to push me over the edge, cl boston is where I would go! Although "best of" is damn hilarious, but that's from all metro areas, not just Boston!
