can anyone tell me how my carb compares to the original 223. I mean is it too big. It says made by carter-webber for motorcraft and has a motorcraft tag:
D5tC AJB (the C looks like an E without the center line)
F 0 K 02
so it came off a 75 truck with 240-300 right?
My engine is idling bad and floods out when you punch it, but then takes off a few seconds later. It also has a high whistling but that might be the free flow air filter. It doesn't seem to have much vacume. I can't find a vacume leak but something's wrong. It doesn't have much power either but it is a 6. The PO replaced everything he could think of and it didn't help. It has new wires, coil, plugs, cap, points, new used carb. Any suggestions?
All the vacume was clogged when I got it, and the pvc hose recently collapsed for some reason but still works
Also I think I got more compression recently if that's possible (from 90-120). Big increase. I'm going to check my valves again when I get a chance. It has a top speed of about 50-55 and that doesn't seem right even with 3.89. Can't go with smaller gears because it barely goes now. I'll probably replace it with an 8 but if I can make it drive ok I'll just keep it. Can a y block from a 58 bolt in. The front mounts are different.
Rebuilding the carb would be a step in the right direction. Sounds like it may be leaking around the butterfly shaft. That is a very typical problem with old carbs as far as I have seen. Spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb when while the truck is running. If it picks up or slows down, there is you problem for starters. You can still rebuild it very economically and improve it's performance. Anybody can throw some type of after market carb on but it takes character to keep with the original and bring them back.
