Tranny type?

Could someone please tell me what kind of tranny I have in my truck and maybe lead me to the right direction as to what I should do as far as getting a new or reman.
I have a 1998 f-150 4x4 with a 4.6 and have the pushbutton overdrive.

The tranny is spuratic shifting, shifts hard, and making a grinding noise when it sits idle in drive or reverse. Yesterday it was pretty bad and seems to be getting worse. Any ideas on what could cause this and where should I go from here. I am a mechanic by trade but never had to deal with this kind of tranny so I am kind of new to the ford scene.
How hard is it to change out and is there any kind of resetting the shift points if I do it myself?
Has anyone heard anything about pheonix rebuilt tranny's if they are good or bad?Any help is greatly appreciated.

The tranny is a 4R70W. The shift points should be programmed in the engine's ECM... at least you alter them through it.
