351 Windsor & Trans
Will a C4 trans from behind a 302 fit? If not, what will fit?
Thanks for your help.

If it is a 351W I would stick with a C6 since it is a much better transmission. Depending on your application you might be able to get by with a C4 but you would need to beef it up. The tranny from behind a 302 would fit but it would not be set up to run behind a 351W and you would burn it up. You can get beefed up AOD's that would give you overdrive if you wanted it.
Engine Identification:
======================
351C/M/400 335 series: 8 bolts in rectangular valve covers. Timing chain housing is part of block. Thermostat housing on block. Exhaust bolt holes diagonal.
351M/400 335 series: intake is 10.7" wide the 351C is narrow.
351W/302/5.0L 6 bolts on trapezoidal valve covers. Thermostat housing on intake. Exhaust bolt holes horizontal.
429/460 385 series: 7 bolts in rectangular valve cover
352/360/390/427/428 FE series: Intake goes under valve covers.
There are other indicators but these may help.
The reason why i asked about the c4 is that I may be able to get one for free from a friend. I realise its no where near the trans the C6 is but, I can use it till I get the C6 rebuilt.
Would a trans from an 86 with a HO 351 w work? I can get one of those for $150 with 86,000 on it. The guy had a fire that burnt up the under hood wiring and doesn't feel his truck is worth the rewire
, instead, they capped of the holes and left it at that.
I am a firm beliver in doing things yourself, but if you do work like this, you don't deserve tools or a truck. I'm glad the previous owner only had it 7 months. He is the one that changed the tranny. He also changed the carb and left all the vacuum lines loose.
