93 Bronco 82,000 miles 351 E4OD...Ok about a month ago Tranny locked up at a stop sign, completly locked up, gave her hard gas..Pop started to move all was well..Got home Tranny fulid was black, I mean black, dropped the pan no metal on magnet, replaced filter and fulid..Life was good..no problems...until a month later and I was driving back from a 500 mile one way trip, tranny started slipping in OD and 3rd gear, RPM's went way up and tranny caught and down the road I went...So I have a locking tranny and slipping at high speeds and now RPM bog at stop signs, feels like the TQ is not letting go, this only happens every so and so...Not to mention it dies when I put it in reverse.... I think the reverse problem is just the TPS..no worries there but the other two...now I do not trust it on long drives..Help!!
I don`t know anything about automatic trannies but my Grandmother has a 1992 Buick Skylark that was doing the same thing. A mechanic friend of mine told me the torque converter was staying locked up and had me unplug & tape up the wires going to some sensor or whatever on the electronic tranny for the torque converter. He said it would barely have a negative effect on gas mileage and wouldn`t hurt anything without the converter locking up 100%. That has been over a year now and she is still trucking on. My Grandmother says she hasn`t noticed any difference in mileage. Don`t know if this applies to your tranny but it may be worth looking into.
