My wife broke the bolt that holds the gas shock on the back door of our 89 Aerostar. The bolt is broken off in the door so I'll have to use an easy-out to get that one out. But the big question is how to disconnect the little swivel from the end of the cylinder (if you can??). The cylinder still works fine but I'm sure they want a bundle for a whole new one. I'd like to just get a new bolt
Any Ideas?
OK You broke the bolt. I broke mine too but I broke mine off into the body. If you broke the bolt in two and still have a piece in the swivel you should be able to put it in a vise and use vise grips to get it out. Maybe we are talking about two different things but I don't see why you need to take the swivel off. Doesn't the swivel just clip on to a bolt on your van?
Yes but....my WIFE broke the bolt! The bolt is one piece with a swivel end that fits onto the gas cylinder. You mentioned a clip - it that how you get the bolt (with the swivel end) off the cylinder?
Thanks for the reply.
Is there part of the bolt in the cylinder? Does the end of your cylinder have a metal clip on it where it joins the bolt? If it has the little metal clip you should be able to pull the clip. Any other pieces in there should just fall right out. It took me half an hour to get mine out. Assuming we have the same kind of cylinders. Mine's a 1990.
