2000 EB Exped 4X4---I know it has been covered before, But HELP!
ABS light is on all the time right after starting, has nothing to do with movement. The light comes on right after turning the key and stays on.
No recent brake work. 55k miles on truck, about 15k on present pads front and rear. Brakes seem to work fine.
Any suggestions before I get way overcharged by the dealer?
Most likely cause for abs light on is the wheel speed sensor that sits on the top of the reaend housing. I have replaced many of those in my repair shop. Easy to replace.

Please some info on where the sensor is exactly... I have an extremely messed up back... the less time I have to be under there in contorted position the better it will be
This is my first post in this forum. Glad to find this resource.
The rear speed sensor is located on top of the rear differential. To see it, you need to get the rear up in the air a bit and crawl under the driver side of the drive shaft. Looking up and towards the rear window, you will see a black wire and clip attached to the sensor. I used a 10mm socket to remove the bolt that is behind the sensor as you are looking at it. I used a screwdriver to pry the sensor out of the differential housing. Then disconnect the sensor from the wire. When I checked the resistance of my old sensor, it was wide open. I installed the new sensor this morning and drove 120 miles today and no more ABS light! Hurray!!
Hi all,
I'm a new expy driver. 2000 EB, 5.4, 2 wheel drive, LLS.
After finding this sight I have been reading through all the old posts. I too had my ABS light come on recently. Last night i replaced the rear wheel sensor and my light is out! Easy fix & cheap too [$10].
Thank you FTE
I got it at my "local parts store" APC [Auto Parts Company]. They are like NAPA; one step above Auto Zone, but still much better deal than the stealer.
For future reference to all with 98 expedition probs:
ABS light with 'stutter/slide' while braking, can remove ABS fuse to stop premature ABS engagement (brake slide/stutter) and then replace rear differential sensor (NAPA #530780 = $11)
Rear end sagging (tire up in wheel well), in my case it was only the Air Compressor Relay, part # F3LY2C013A $90
If Cruise Control wont work anymore, replace Brake Pressure Switch , part # F3TZ9F924BB $20-30
I am getting an ABS light randomly during driving. Is the speed sensor usually the problem or can the wheel sensors go bad also? If the speed sensor goes bad does that cause problems with the transmission shifting?
I had codes read out... turns out the front left wheel sensor AND rear differential sensor went bad...
I had no problems with transmission shifting...
also, you may want to remove ABS brake fuse to prevent 'drifting' (false ABS cycling) into the car in front of you like I almost did many times (until you get the sensor replaced)
Yes, when I accelerate hard, I cannot believe how fast my 98 5.4 is, the ABS light comes on and stays on until shtdown and than it is off until the next race.
I've read the posts in this forum. I too have an ABS light that keeps coming on and the speedometer keep fading on and off. Yesterday I replaced the ABS sensor on top of the rear differential. Now again this morning the ABS light came on!! I've also got some trouble with the front wanting to pull to the right while I'm accelerating.
I'm wondering if the two are related or not?
Any other ideas on what could be the problem with the ABS light?
