If I told you it wouldn't be a secret, but think about how normal it looks to see a dimmer switch on the floorboard. Now think back to an old tractor with a momentary starter switch that looks the same as a dimmer switch.

What's your opinion of systems that allow the vehicle to run but shut it down after a short time/distance?

IMO-i don't it to move one inch!! i want to catch the perp while he in the truck.....and if you are worried about car jackings....thats what door locks and the gas pedal are there for...and insurance if you catch my drift..if someone tries to get in my truck while i'm in it, my foot is hitting the gas...i'm not afraid to test my seatbelts.......
One of the best methods for creating a kill switch is to use several of them in series. Take 4 double-pull double-throw switches and line them up. Get the ones where the "off" is in the center, and the switch toggles up and down from the off position. Wire them so that the 4 switches create a "combination code" Have many stray wires running from the switch to off behind the dash. Do the same for you positive and negative leads. Not all of the switches even need to be completly "alive" on the circuit.
If you confound the true wires with the "real" ones enough, then a thief will have to know the "correct" combination to start the truck. With 4 switches you looking at 81 possible combinations. Add another switch and now you make it 243 combinations.
As long as the wires are throughly confusing, and securly fastened behind the dash, then you've got a pretty secure "kill system" .
the bad part about that ideal is if you can get to the back of the swithces, just jump them all out with bare wire, not to mention I could prob. crack your 4 or 5 switch code in a few minutes. The harder you make it for a thief to get at the better. check out this thread also. http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=274006

We use these type of systems in "bait car operations" I dont know about using it for your system, the bonus is that they will think they run out of gas and just leave the truck, rather than damaging it trying to chip the column.
The drug runners have been using hidden switches lately in a combination such as passengers door has to be open, headlights on and a hidden reed (magnetic) switch. Then thier trap door will open. It would really suck if you needed to leave in a hurry and did this.

Man to man- bring em on. But if my wife and kids are anywhere near a desperate crackhead, and I'm not there, I'd just as soon he go away. He can have the truck and when it does shut off, now there's a mile or two between my family and the crackhead.
If it was just me, all I can say is that it's gonna be alot harder to get me than it was to get Reginald Denny.
