Hypertech Power Tuning

I have a 1993 Ford Bronco and i bought it used from a guy who had a hypertech Power Tuning installed and i was driving to the beach today about a 6 hour drive and i noticed that my vehicle was doing terrribly bad on the highway, for example not shifting properly and also my truck started to smoke but the temp. guage, which works fine, said the engine temp was fine. I am wondering if all of this could be a result of this hypertech product that is in my bronco. Thanks

I seriously doubt a chip would cause this, especially the shifting. I hate to sound obvious, but have you pulled the chip to see what happens?

There is no original chip. The Hypertech, like other Ford chips, is a piggy back module that sticks out of the side of the computer box.
