Yay! Daisy rides again!

I finally got the truck back together and took it out for a cruise....thanks Bruce for the steering column. It's working perfectly! While driving around, ignoring the blue smoke coming from the left exhaust pipe, I noticed a bump-bump-bump while cruising.

It turns out, as it always does, that after lowering the front end, my silly aftermarket engine mount for the 351 in there right now is bottoming out on my freshly painted axle! I'll be positive about it. I don't know whether to remove that engine mount and build new ones, or cut it off and re-align the shape of the bar........hmm......

And that positive attitude is a good idea.

Glad to hear she rides again. Is the y-block going in the daisy or the bigwindow? Did you ever get the mono's yet? I would really like to see how the whole truck sits with 'em on. Let me know how school goes.... -4speed

Congrats Sixoh!

Excellent lesson in patience...I'm glad you didn't let the little set back ruin the day.

Glad to hear Daisy is up and running, Shane. Wish mine was doing the same, but I have too much to do just yet to keep it on the road. What's the deal on the motor mount? Was it perhaps the wrong one?

It was the right engine mount - the kind you can get from any supplier out there for the 351/400 block. It just doesn;t allow for lowering+engine crossmember+original solid axle front end!

Hey Andrew - school's kool...guess what I'm building in engine rbldg? A 292 Y-BLOCK w/FORGED CRANK converted to a 312!!! WOO HOO! I'm going to take my 292 in also to check it out, bore it out, magnaflux, hot tank and anything else that needs done to the block. Heck, maybe I'll bore it out to a 312. But how kool is that? I won't be able to rebuild my engine, but at least all the block work will be done and it'll be painted and shrink wrapped.

As far as the engine mount prob, I'm going to fabricate a new pair and get rid of the one in there now.

Shane Glad to see it worked out for you, I had "junkie" hauled off today to the crusher. to bad about the motor mount hitting the axle, Just use a torch and heat it up and bend it out of the way...you need to be driving that truck not letting her sit..just kidding get that thing fixed fast

Congrats...Way to Go Sixoh!

I knkow how you feel. I've had my '53 on the road the past 2 months, to quote the previously mentioned Roseanne, Rosanna-Danna, if it ain't one thing, it's another!
I've been chasing an intermittent stall problem which has left me stranded a couple of times but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying (for the most part) my truck after 8 years of building!!!

She's still far from "FINISHED" whatever that means, but she's on the road and plans are for a "Dash to the Dells" in two weeks!

Better get my cooling fan working and my windows in, eh?
[that's canadjun for hunh?]

As far as fixing the prob....I wonder what would happen if I did just bend it back a little, enough to clear the axle? What I was think was bolting a plate to the frame, welding in some tube steel (like the crossmember is made of) and using it as a gusset. I figured between the plate and the motor mount, the "hypotenuse" would be the strength needed to hold up the engine. It doesn't have to last forever, just till school's done....by then I should be ready to get my Y in, and get rid of that pesky 351M/crap-o-matic!
