So I saw a 3500 dodge dually the other day with DOT markings on the side that read 25000 pounds. Is this something that anyone can do when registering a vehicle just by asking for a higher GCVW. Or is this limited to commercial vehicles. I know alot of the manufactures are going to 23000lbs but is this how all these commercial guys have been doing it for so long. Interesting to say the least.
Someone on another forum stated that they bought an F350 PSD dually that had been special ordered with 4.30 gears and the GCWR had been changed, legally, to 26,000 lbs, which is the same as the F450 with that engine and axle ratio. I don't know how the change was accomplished though.
The primary differences between the F350 and F450 are the higher-rated 19.5" wheels and tires, larger brakes front and rear, higher GVWR, rear GAWR and spring rate, and larger frame on the F450. That seems like alot of significant strength and safety differences between the two trucks to be able to raise the GCWR on the F350 to equal that of the F450 just by changing the axle ratio to match the F450...
